Working For Justice

Plans are underway for the 43rd annual Ecumenical Legislative Briefing Day to be held February 10, 2018, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at Christ United Methodist Church. Open to people of all faiths, the event is designed to help participants understand the issues before the Nebraska Unicameral, where attendant bills related to these issues reside in the legislative process, and which state legislators are sponsoring them.

The day is made up of workshops (of which participants may choose three) run by subject experts. 2018 topic titles include: Aging and Healthcare, Climate Change, Human Trafficking, Immigration, Prison Reform, Racial Justice, Schools - Private/Public, and Water. We have also slated a workshop called Breaking News!, recognizing that issues heat up after we've set our agenda. This allows us to add a topic at the last minute. Our keynote speaker (who closes the afternoon) is Jane Kleeb, Founder of Bold Nebraska and Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party.

The day typically starts with rolls and coffee during check-in and includes a full lunch. Child care is available at no cost. A limited number of scholarships are available to students who register in advance. We encourage all attendees to register so we know how much food to prepare, but walk-ins the day of the event are also welcome.
